Institute of Museum and Library Services

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) provides federal funding support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. Through grants, policy development, and research, IMLS helps communities and individuals thrive with broad public access to knowledge, cultural heritage, and lifelong learning.  Our key interests of national concern include Civic/Community Engagement, Early Learning, Education Support, Workforce Development/Job Assistance, and 21st Century Skills.

Omaha Public Library’s Creating a Collaborative Culture through Community Engagement project addresses IMLS’s “promoting museums and libraries as strong community anchors that enhance civic engagement, cultural opportunities, and economic vitality” strategic goal.  The library is deeply grateful for the $408,000.00 grant to create a community engagement model for public libraries.  The Omaha Public Library was also honored to be nominated as one of the ten library finalists for the 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
